Environment

Since 2004 Raffineria di Milazzo has had an Environmental Management System compliant with the provisions of standard UNI EN ISO 14001:2004. The certification applies to the following: refining of raw and unfinished products, received by ship, storage, movement of the products by ship, tank trucks and pipeline, production of electrical energy and vapour for internal use through multi-fuel furnaces (fuel oil, refinery gas), service installations (industrial residues treatment, desalination, fumes treatment, preliminary waste storage).

In particular, the Environmental Management System enables the refinery to:

  • make use of an enhanced and documented system for checking compliance with the law in force;
  • involve employees in the achievement of the improvement objectives;

  • share the operating management principles, methods and procedures with external companies.

Quality

Raffineria di Milazzo has implemented a Quality Management System, which covers the areas of production, storage and handling of propylene, the stream with the highest added value among those produced.

The refinery has implemented a Quality Management System in order to:

  • demonstrate its capacity as a regular supplier of products and/or services which meet the expectations (explicit and implicit) of clients and comply with the requirements of the laws applicable to the sector;
  • increase customer satisfaction through the effective application of a system of processes, aimed at guaranteeing the continuous improvement of company services.

The requirements of standard UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 are also periodically checked and subjected to both internal and external audits.

Chemical Lab Certification

In September 2011 the chemistry lab was accredited as testing laboratory, compliant with the management requirements of standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005, for the testing of refinery oil and fuel oils as per the list attached to the Accredia certificate. In order to achieve this, aimed at certain specific analyses within the context of the Protocol of Greenhouse Gas Emissions, a modern Laboratory Quality Management System has been implemented including also Certification ISO 9001:2008, released in March 2012, on the analyses of raw materials, of fuels for internal consumption and of water at sea discharging.
